University of Malaya’s researchers and publications shine at the Malaysia’s Research Star Award (MRSA) and CREAM Status Recognition (CREAM) 2017 by Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia.

Five researchers from University of Malaya (UM) are among the 25 recipients for the 2017 MRSA award by Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) on 5th October 2017. The award recognises researchers in Malaysia with outstanding performance in scholarly publication.

The Malaysia’s Research Star Award (previously known as Malaysia’s Rising Star Award), MRSA, is a joint collaboration with two prestigious indexing agencies, Clarivate Analytics and Elsevier, to honour the most influential researchers in Malaysia whose researches are cited and recognised worldwide. The awards were presented by YB Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh, the Minister of Higher Education Malaysia. It was hoped that the success of these researchers can be the catalyst to inspire scholars to produce high quality research.

Prof. Dr. Goh Khean Jin, a leading authority in the field of neurosciences, received the Citation Classic award, while both Prof. Dr. Sazaly Abu Bakar and Prof. Datin Dr. Indra Vythilingam were awarded for the Outstanding National Research in Infectious Diseases and Tropical Diseases, respectively. In addition, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Juan Joon Ching has been recognized for his world’s top 0.1% cited review article published within the last two years, and Dr. Ong Hwai Chyuan, an expert in biofuel and renewable technology, was the recipient for Frontier Researcher category.

Besides that, five journals of University of Malaya received the CREAM status. The Malaysian Journal of Computer Science and Malaysian Journal of Library & Information Science were awarded for the High Performance Journals Indexed in Web of Science, and the International Journal of Mechanical and Material Engineering is one of the winners for the High Performance Journals Indexed in Scopus. Two other journals (Malaysian Journal of Economic Studies and Journal of the University of Malaya Medical Centre) received the Potential CREAM status award.
