GLOBAL EMERGING MARKETS SUMMIT (GEMS) 2008 “EMERGING MARKETS – A PROMISING FUTURE, A MANAGED RISK”
People

London - GEMS 2008 will identify key market trends, evaluate strategic challenges and the critical issues that impact on emerging markets. What’s new in these markets? What’s next? Where will growth come from? Where are the opportunities? Where are the risks?

GEMS stands for the Global Emerging Markets Summit, an idea whose time has come, as emerging markets prove to be a countervailing force in the global economy amidst signs of an economic slowdown caused by the US subprime and the global liquidity crises. Cash injections from Sovereign Wealth Funds from emerging markets like China, the United Arab Emirates and Singapore, have provided a life-blood for major investment houses such as UBS and Merrill Lynch and can be expected to arrest decline and underpin sustainable growth in the global economy.

The dynamism of India has seen the rise of Indian conglomerates taking prominent roles in Global M & A - the likes of Arcelormittal and Reliance. Singapore’s Temasek and Malaysia’s Khazanah, the Abu Dhabi Investment Agency, the Dubai Investment Group, China’s global players like Lenovo, Haier, and the like have opened up new possibilities and are steering growth opportunities. Does the future belong here?

GEMS aspires to shape the debate on emerging markets. It is the inaugural forum on emerging markets in London, brought to you by people who are from emerging markets and understand emerging markets well. GEMS is unique and different because:

• It presents perspectives from emerging markets
• It takes to London, the world’s leading Financial Centre, this single-minded focus on emerging markets
• It provides a serious interface between leading players from the Western
hemisphere and key personalities from the emerging markets
• It encourages a meeting of minds for all interested in emerging markets to better
understand and manage the risks and rewards of investing in these economies
• It presents specific business and investment opportunities in these markets; and
• It discusses the success factors for engaging with and doing business in emerging
markets.

Learn more about Emerging Markets from GEMS - the driving forces and key trends, the investment prospects and challenges, the pitfalls, and success factors.
