Biography:
Dr Robiah Yunus is an Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering and currently the Head of the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia. Her autobiography has been included in the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 of the Marquis Who’s Who in Science and Engineering.

Her research area is on the synthesis of the biobased products, which encompass chemicals and energy transformation from biorenewable resources involving separation and conversion technology research. The biobased products such as biofuels and biolubricants are receiving significant attention due to their importance in a sustainable economy. Separation research projects include the adsorption and supercritical extraction of natural products from plants.

Projects in the conversion area include production of biodegradable products from plant feedstocks; and catalytic conversion of carbohydrates and oils to polyols and alkyl esters, respectively. A Malaysian patent has been applied for the process of synthesizing the lubricant from palm oil (# P120030943).

Her research project on environmentally friendly synthetic lubricant from palm oil has received recognitions of innovative excellence and valuable accomplishments in research from various institutions.

She was awarded gold medal in International Product Exhibition, IENA 2004, Nuremberg, Germany, gold medal in British Invention Show 2004, and silver medal in the 2004 International Product Exhibition, Geneva, Switzerland, 2004. She has authored several publications at both international and local arena including the Journal of American Oil Chemist Society and Artificial Cell, Blood Substitute, and Immobilized Biotechnology, Journal of Oil Palm Research and the European J. of Lipid Science and Technology.
