Biography:
Shameem Rafik-Galea is presently an Associate Professor with the Department of English Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication Universiti Putra Malaysia. She has been an English as a second/foreign language (ESL/EFL) instructor, an English language teacher (ELT) trainer, and an English for Specific Purposes (ESP) instructor.

She currently teaches Linguistics/Applied linguistic courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. Her research interests are in the area of Organizational Discourse, Language and Communication in the Workplace, Language for Specific Purposes and Bilingualism and Multilingualism.

Dr Rafik-Galea also has an interest in thinking and communication skills and ELT materials design and development. She is presently involved in a number of exciting research projects such as “ Management Communication Practices and Language Use in Agricultural Based and Agricultural Related Malaysian Multinational Corporations”; “Advancing a Critical Linguistic Discourse Theory on the Discourse of Malaysian Financial Market Analysis”, “ The language of Tourism in Malaysian Tourism Promotional Materials,” “ Language Use and Communication in the Malaysia Family Domain,” Communication Strategy Use in Foreign Language Learning Among Non-Native speakers of French, German, Spanish, Thai and Japanese,” and “Representation of Plurilingual Competence and Language Use Among Multilingual Learners”.

Presently she sits on the editorial board of several journals amongst them is the Journal of Professional Communication, The Pan–Pacific Association of Applied Linguistics Journal, PERTANIKA Journal of Social Sciences & Humanities, and the Modern Language Journal (Malaysia). She is also one of the editors for the “Handbook of Business Communication” to be published by the University of Edinburgh Press.
